Cognitive Milestones In Adolescence

Adolescence is a transitional stage in human life, when physical and mental traits attain maturity. During adolescence, biological, social and psychological changes occur in the human body. During this period, an adolescent achieves many cognitive milestones.

Teenage period is when an adolescent reaches his logical maturity. During this stage in life, an individual develops the capability to think more logically and scientifically. We can see the growth of human brain from an infant to an adult, and its subsequent intelligence.

Adolescence can be compared to building blocks of logical thinking. As a child becomes an adolescent he is able to capture more and more facts to apply logic and relate it to facts. For example, a child in its early months is aware of changes around him, and assumes that everybody else is aware of the same change. With time, he will start to apply logic to his thinking and react differently to similar situations. This important psychological change in human life enables a small child to interact and use logical thinking.

Adolescence brings in abstract reasoning. A child in his early months starts recognizing voices and learns to differentiate one voice from the other. They start expressing themselves, smiling when happy or crying in pain. Slowly they learn to speak their native language and perceive their surroundings. And, few years down the line, the child understands facts, logic, and gathers knowledge. In the adolescent years, a teenager starts thinking in a more scientifically and matured fashion, which shapes his personality.
