Theory Of Alcohol Abuse And Depression
In most cases, alcohol and depression are related to each other. Alcohol and depression have always been used as excuses for each other. Both these problems can lead to domestic violence. There have been many studies conducted for years suggesting the intrinsic relation between depression and alcohol. |
There are many theories and schools of thought about alcohol abuse and depression. Each theorist believes in something that is different from other theorists. However, there seems to be a common thread of agreement running through all theories.
Earlier, it was believed that people suffering from severe depression are the ones who resort to alcohol drinking. And, soon alcohol becomes a part of the person’s life. But recent studies have suggested that people, who consume alcohol, later suffer from depression. There are many alcohol related diseases like hypomania and cyclothymia which lead to major depression.
However, the more recent studies suggest it is the consumption of alcohol that leads to severe depression. Presently, it is believed that people who consume alcohol understand how the habit adversely affects their life and feel more depressed.
The most popular and recent belief is that the only solution to alcohol induced depression is to avoid the consumption of alcohol completely. This theory on alcohol abuse and depression suggests that it is alcohol that causes depression and not the other way around. Treating alcohol abuse can lead to recovery from depression. It is not necessary that every depressed person consumes alcohol but every alcoholic surely does get depressed.
