Should I Divorce Due To Alcoholism ?

Divorce due to alcoholism is quite a common occurrence. A divorce under these circumstances usually occurs because one of the spouses shows change in behavior and starts getting verbally and physically abusive. This change is attributed to alcoholism. However, alcoholism does not always lead to divorce. Some couples can work things out is the alcoholic spouse seeks treatment.

Many people when they get tangled in such situations, they cannot think clearly and tend to get confused. They do not know whether they should get divorced due to alcoholism or try and work things out.

Let us consider some of the problems an alcoholic's spouse could face. Usually it is men who turn to alcohol but even women are not immune. Alcoholics tend to lose their temper easily. They start being verbally and physically abusive.  Alcoholic men can end up suffering some a disorder known as anti social psychiatric disorder. They get totally cut off from their social circuit. Moreover, they make it hard for their family members to live around and along with them. These situations are certainly hard to live with, and invariably divorce is the only option.

However, it would be advisable for a couple to try and work things out. A divorce not only affects the couple but also the children. It can cause severe emotional trauma in children. Adolescent children especially are not equipped to handle the impact of a divorce and results show that many times they can resort to alcohol to control their emotional pain. Considering the aftermath of divorce, it is best to try everything first to save the marriage. If all fails, then divorce might be the only option.
