Why Is Public Education Important ?
Public education is a force enhancer when a disaster happens. Disasters do happen and when they happen people must be prepared for it. When an individual is prepared for such disasters, the government has less work to do when a disaster strikes. When it comes to business, when employees are prepared, they return to work sooner. |
Most people are aware that disasters do happen. But only thing is they do not wish to be prepared. They either take it very lightly or ignore the consequences it may cause to them or to their dear ones.
Public education cannot just work by giving presentations, seminars, distributing books on disaster preparation or conducting public events to train people. Disaster preparation is not something that people really need. Instead, they need a disaster education motivation program which can motivate the people to be prepared for disasters. These motivation programs must inspire people to act as per their knowledge to protect themselves and their family members in case of disasters.
Disaster public education is often less valued by everyone especially when allocating budget to it. When money is spent on public education, it is difficult to prove or show the result since there is no visible evidence to prove the success of the program. Hence there is often very less fund allocated for such disaster public educations.
It is not always possible to achieve hundred percent functionality in areas related to emergency management. Hence, this makes the public education utmost important.
Providing public education must be considered a high priority task. Also, important is that disaster preparation must be based on considering fresh evidences. For example, to prepare for certain disasters, three days worth of supplies may have been considered enough. But if recent experiences show that three days of supplies are not enough, then the disaster preparation plan must be changed accordingly so that the supplies are enough until the federal assistance arrives.
