The basic qualification for adult education teachers is having an undergraduate degree in adult education. Some special programs for teaching adults also require the adult educator to have a master's degree. Also, if the adult education teacher is going to work for the local government or the state government, he or she would also require a license. To hire adult education teachers, some states ask for adult education license, while some ask for public school teacher license. To obtain a license for adult education, one must have completed bachelor’s degree in adult education and a teacher training program.
There are many colleges which offer graduation and master’s degree in adult education. To keep the skills updated about new developments in providing adult education, an adult education teacher must attend trainings and activities that help in professional development. The number of adult education teachers employed is increasing every year.
The employment rate in this area is growing faster than any other. It is estimated that by 2016, the number of adult education teachers employed will grow by 14 percent. For those with prior teaching experience, the job is not difficult.
The prospects of the job are also good. There are also a number of teachers who leave the job or get retired. Hence, the job opportunities in the field are large enough.
