Does The Military Except Online High School Diploma ?

For purposes of enlistment, the military furnishes three tiers of educational qualifications as requisites. Tier I of education qualification is represented by a high school diploma or a minimum of fifteen college credits. A high school diploma signifies the achievement in education holistically.

Finishing high school through home study may or may not be included in this category in accordance to the laws of the pertaining state. 90 percent of the recruitments in the services belong to Tier I.

The next level symbolized by Tier II encompasses General Equivalency Diploma (GED), home study valid in some states in the US, Certificate of Attendance, Alternative/Continuation High School, Correspondence or Online School Diplomas, and Occupational Program Certificate (Vo/Tech). The various services of the military have their own restrictions with regards to the recruitment of Tier II category applicants. The Army takes the maximum from this category with 10 percent enlistments annually, the Marines take only 5 percent of applicants from Tier II each year and the Air Force recruits less than one percent of such applicants. Moreover, all these candidates should have achieved a minimum score of fifty on the AFQT.

An applicant falling in the Tier III category is neither a graduate from high school nor does the person have any alternative credentials. The chances of being enlisted in the military as part of Tier III are extremely remote. In comparison to GEDs, applicants with diplomas have brighter chances of procuring recruitment. When it comes to an online high school diploma, firstly the candidate will find himself placed in Tier II instead of Tier I and secondly, many of the online programs are not recognized by the services. Another requisite for an online diploma holder for military enlistment is finishing fifteen 15 hours of college semester.
