High School Spanish Lesson Plans
Teaching through practical demonstration is the most effective form of education. The students not only grasp knowledge faster but activity based learning keeps the interest in the class alive. Teaching Spanish at the high school level is quite a task. |
In order to generate interest and for enhanced comprehension, facilitators can plan for a Spanish-style market. Before implementation of the plan, a discussion related to the subject in class is a must. The facilitator should engage students in discussing the concept and location of the market; commodities on sale such as food, clothing and other accessories; and the currency to be used. The students will require a large range of craft material to create the market scenario. This discussion will expose students to new vocabulary of Spanish, the meanings and pronunciation of which the teacher can explain alongside.
Once the market scene is ready, all items are to be labeled in Spanish with their prices in the Spanish currency of pesos. The facilitator will divide the students in smaller groups. Students will now be asked to enact small skits for a stipulated time period, wherein one group would take the role of the sellers and the members of the other group would enact as customers. The mode of communication during the skits has to be only Spanish. The students must ensure that each participant has lines to speak. During the performance the facilitator should assess the groups simultaneously. The assessment should be based on aspects such as the usage of words in the right places with their correct meanings, proper pronunciation of words, creativity involved in the drama and adhering to the time limit. The students would surely be eager to know their ranking, once the performances are over.
