What Is The Relationship Between Ethics And Critical Thinking ?

A normal human tendency that we all exhibit is the strong inclination to think of what we believe in is the ultimate truth. We never ever look at ourselves as flawed; it is always others who are guilty, conniving, self-centered and evil.

We are ready at all times to criticize others, yet rarely do we analyze our own actions or words with as much gusto. Critical thinking what is needed to resolve this kind of a situation, as this is the only application of the mind that can help us distinguish between perceived notions and the real truth, and help us develop insights and skills necessary to be able to look at the big picture. Critical thinking, thus, helps develop our own moral code, since it makes us think for ourselves and be rational while judging both ourselves and others.

Critical thinking can never be forced on someone. Nor it can compel a person to come to any moral judgment of any kind. This kind of thinking asks for a high level of intellectual understanding and moral reasoning, clarity of thought and unbiased judgment; and the combined result of all these can result in nothing else but good ethics.

Unfortunately, very few of us have ever thought of, or would like think deeply and honestly about our own morality. Opening our own minds to the moral contradictions within ourselves, or looking at what makes us egocentric and perhaps immoral, is a daunting task. Most of us tend to avoid critical thinking because of such consequences.
