Government And Family Values
Do the politicians have anything to do about family values? Keep thinking about this as you read on. For some, family values are the biblical principles, and for others family values means living life with discipline and responsibility. |
Many think that parents are over sensitive towards their kids these days. Some think that they have the right to hit their children in the public, while others think that it may be a negative influence on the children. Some people understand family value as being a traditional family. Others think that family value means imparting good values to the children so that they can discern right from wrong, and loving the children no matter what, so that they will grow up to be responsible citizens.
However, the government now is taking a stance on family, and therefore, having an impact on family values. For instance, there is opposing view of the government when it comes to families headed by homosexuals. Some members of the government believe that this type of set up is not the correct type of family to bring up children. However, whether they are right or wrong does not seem to matter. Little does the government realize that family values stem from families where children are safe, secure and loved. They will learn family values from their parents and in turn they will be tolerant, responsible individuals, learn to accept different people and situations, and also be able to do the right thing in the society as well as their home.
Therefore, when government proclaims that they want to bring back family values in American families, one wonders at the veracity of the claim. Each family has different set of family values. Therefore, it will be impossible for the government to address the issues of all families. Also, by giving the government the right to decide what is right and wrong for our families, we are giving up our right to freedom.
No one, not even the government, has the right to determine what is a so-called proper family and proper family values for a family to follow.
