Definition Of Health Ethics

When you look at the definition of health ethics, you realize that it encompasses a lot of things. It is about providing the right type of treatment to a person, but it also covers that right of the entire community and the nation. A person has the right to treated with dignity and respect when visiting a healthcare facility. All these aspects are part of health ethics.

Also, the way a healthcare professional handles a patient is health ethics. A doctor should not discriminate against a patient based on his or her age, race, color or gender. If two people have the same disease, they are both entitled to the same level and quality of treatment.

However, health ethics is something that is being discussed a lot in modern-day society. There are doctors who deny treatment to patients; confidential information of patients are being leaked to insurers and thus they are being denied claims; and there are healthcare providers who are turning away patients due to lack of medical insurance. All these practices go against health ethics. That would explain why there is a rise in lawsuits against hospitals and doctors.

Also, health ethics ensure that healthcare providers follow the Hippocratic Oath that they take when entering the medical field. The oath ensures that doctors follow certain ethics when treating patients. But how many of them actually follow these ethics is debatable. Nonetheless, as a society, we need health ethics in our hospitals and doctors to ensure that ailing people are treated to the best of the abilities and knowledge.
