Ivf And Ethics
IVF is the short form of in-vitro fertilization. In vitro means inside a glass, and that is why babies born through this procedure are called test tube babies. It is a semi-artificial way of producing babies, and is mainly used by infertility clinics to help people who do not have children of their own. |
However, the process of IVF has raised several concerns on moral and ethical grounds. Religious people claim that science is taking up the role of God, and any babies that are produced artificially will not have a soul. However, when the world’s first test tube baby was born, she was as adorable as any other normal baby and is also growing up fine. The concerns of the church have been forgotten. IVF is now widely accepted by a huge population and in several countries. The ethical and moral values are also changing regarding to the subject.
There are several ethical issues concerning IVF babies. At what stage or what point does an IVF baby have human rights? In case of a normal pregnancy, the human rights can be given to the baby at an embryo stage. Is it right to create, freeze, and discard embryos? If abortion is wrong, then how does it justify IVF? The human right is to be created and not to be produced artificially. So, should we make human beings in this artificial fashion is another question that needs to be answered. Also, couples, who do not have children, can adopt the unfortunate ones. Why more children should be created artificially?
