What Is Corporate Ethics ?
A corporate business environment is an extremely professional one, and is very different from the environment prevailing in small businesses. Corporations are usually global companies and they have even bigger responsibility of maintaining corporate ethics. It is actually quite difficult because they have to deal with ethics in different places of the world. Sometimes they have to compromise on a few ethics, and most of the times the compromise comes from the employees. |
Most of the ethics that apply to corporate are integrity, privacy, secrecy, compliance and honesty. Some morals and ethics are very easily achieved as people exhibit them in their individual attitude also. However, some of them are not. For example, America was outsourcing a lot of businesses to other countries like India, Bangladesh and China. However, here their biggest challenge is to migrate their corporate ethics into a new environment, culture and society in the form of a business practice. In the US, most corporations address their employees by their first names. Employees address their superiors by their first or last name. However, in some countries, especially in Asia, the same practice is seen as disrespectful and one has to refer to their superiors as Sir. When two different cultures are put together, this may become an extremely cumbersome process. Also, one corporation's sense of fairness may not apply to another.
However, corporate ethics mean in a general sense one has to comply with the set of rules established by the company and these rules apply to all the employees who work for that particular corporate throughout the world.
