Example Parenting Plan
When a marriage does not work out successfully and the couple has kids, many of the states require the divorcing parents to chart out a plan for parenting, while they apply for the separation. The guidelines, expectations and support of each of the parent in the children’s lives are clearly mentioned. |
The parenting plan addresses the question of who is responsible for certain critical aspects of the children’s future. It defines the scope of duties and obligations of each parent on the child’s upbringing.
Both the parents should share the responsibilities of child development and nurturing. Realistic expectations should be set on each of the spouses when drafting the plan
Here are some guidelines about the topics to be covered in a parenting plan:
- What is the schedule of parental interaction with the children on weekdays and weekends?
- Where will the child spend holidays and vacations?
- Who will support the child financially for basic needs as well education?
- How the financial support will be handled during the inflation times?
- If both the spouses are working, who would be taking care of the child?
- Who will take responsibility of the child when he or she is sick?
- What will be the allowed level of grandparents’ interaction?
- If the parents come from different religion, which religion would the child follow?
- Who will take care of supporting the child for extra curricular activities?
- Who will support the child for college education?
- If any of the parents get remarried, what is the role of the step parent?
