Teenage Parenting Facts & Information

With the rapidly changing world patterns, teens are at a risk of facing a more complex society where alcohol, cigarettes and drugs are easily available and sex-related diseases like AIDS are on a rampage. Teens are under intense pressure as they have to struggle with issues like excelling in academics, future ambitions, violence and increased unemployment.

Teenage is probably the most complicated and most fragile phase of life. Teenage parenting is the biggest challenge for a parent-child relationship. While parents are perceived as role models during early childhood, the responsibilities and roles of parents change with teenagers. Parents should take utmost care about their teenage children without interrupting their independence or privacy. Children in this age are easily influenced by their surroundings and peers. Teenagers are more comfortable with parents with whom they can communicate openly. It is the responsibility of the parents to squeeze out time from their strenuous mid-life worries and create an atmosphere where their child can openly discuss their problems.

Teens even get dismayed at a trivial issue like a pimple on their face. Parents should respect the individuality of a teenage child. Argument will only complicate matters. Teenagers do not like their parents when they preach, set limitations, try to inculcate discipline and condemn their opinions as childish talk. Parents should have the approach to listen to the opinions and views of the child attentively. Messages should be clear and concise. Teenagers should be involved in issues related to the family. Parents should convey to teenagers that they have an important role to play in building a successful family structure.
