Although there are certain insignificant side-effects due to same sex parenting, there is no major impact on the psychological development of the child. Children growing with same sex parents tend to show more empathy towards social diversity and are less confined by gender stereotypes.
However, the risk is that there is an increased risk that these children are more likely to get influenced by their parents and would try to practice homosexuality at a later stage. Research data has confirmed that the emotional status of children growing with same sex parents with normal behavior is similar to those growing with parents with opposite sex.
There are certain effects on children growing with same sex parents that cannot be ignored. Same sex parents can fulfill either the responsibility of a father or a mother. But they can never behave as a mother and a father. Usually people who are either genetically abnormal or have been emotionally and psychologically disturbed during their childhood resort to homosexuality. Incidence of mental health problems, suicidal tendency and reduced life expectancy is high in these types of individuals. Incidence of physical violence, psychological disturbances and verbal aggression is higher in case of same sex relationships than in married, heterosexual relationships. Children growing in such environments are going to get significantly affected. Apart from this, children growing with same sex parents are at a greater risk of getting molested or get involved into sex with parents themselves.
Nonetheless, all this said, it has been noticed that the effects of same sex parenting on children is invariably the same as heterosexual parenting. The idea is to provide a secure and loving haven to the child so that he/she can grow into a responsible and caring adult.
