Child Development And Family Research

The overall development of the child at various levels (physical, mental, social, emotional) depends on the environment in which he or she grows in. A cohesive harmonious family shows the commitment of a child to help and support him in his growth.

Thus, a happy child achieves the best level of confidence and self-development in a gratifying family environment with positive reinforcement from the members and constructive guidance from the parents.

The family ambience also helps in developing the competitive and achievement spirit of the individuals. The appreciation and encouragement of the family becomes a major factor in developing the personality of the child.

Typically, the child should be surrounded by few adults who help in the growth and development constantly. This kind of nurturing builds trust, intimacy and friendly bonding between the adults and children. It is important to not pressurize the child and overload his daily life with supervising adults. This curbs his independence and identity.

The family should provide a positive environment where there is a lot of trust, love, closeness and support. The child should be able to express his emotions, desires and interests to the family and learn from the feedbacks.

A child living in a conflicting environment where there are a lot of differences between the family members is more negative in his or her attitude. In case of children’s upbringing by disharmonious parenting, either in terms of values or in terms of cultural heritage or religion, the child tends to grow up confused in his principles.
