Benefits For Single Parents
Fortunately being a single parent is no longer looked down upon by the society. Today, it is quite common in nearly all countries in the world to have families being headed by a single parent. However, being a single parent is not easy; not financially, emotionally or physically. |
However, the government has realized that there are more and more single parent families in the society. Hence, it is making an effort to ease the burden on single parents. Today, there are many benefits for single parents. However, for most benefits, single parents have to check whether they are eligible for the same. For instance, if single parents have children under 16 years of age, or the children are under 19 years of age and studying on a full time basis, or the child is under 16 or 17 years of age and has left school just recently in order to work or get trained, then these single parents can be eligible to get benefits from the state and/or the federal governments.
Usually benefits for single parents depend on the income of the parent and the number of children living in the household. So, in terms of financial amount, the benefit will vary from one single parent household to another.
Similarly there are other programs run at state level or district level or by the federal government that offer different kinds of benefits for single parents. For instance, in some school districts, children from single parent families can be eligible for free school lunches and milk; some programs provide assistance to pregnant mothers if they require financial and health support.
