Goverment Aid For Single Parents

Bringing up a child and fulfilling all his need is a difficult task for a single mother or father. As children are growing, their needs increase. This can put a great strain on a single parent’s income. Fortunately, there is government aid for single parents that one can avail.

However, before receiving any financial support from the government you will have to prove that you need financial assistance to bring up the child.

Some of the government aids for single parents are as follows:

TANF: This stand for temporary assistance for needy families. This program offers financial support to single parents in order to help them take proper care of their children in homely environment. Also, the program helps single parents to develop certain skills so that they can get jobs and secure income.

CCDF: Child Care and Development Fund is a program sponsored by the US government and is available throughout the country. Through the program, financial assistance is extended to needy single parents. Since this program is administered by the state government, very state has its own eligibility criteria for qualifying. In order to receive financial assistance through CCDF, single parents may apply to the office of the Department of Health and Social Services.

CHIP: This is the Children’s Healthcare Insurance Program. This program began in 1997. It is funded by the federal government as well as the state government. Through this problem, children from low income families can get health insurance coverage. Since each state also funds the program, the eligibility criteria varies from one state to the next. The same is also true for the amount of coverage that is offered through the CHIP

Medicaid: Medicaid offers medical assistance to a woman and her child. Women who are pregnant and also come from low income families can avail medical treatment through Medicaid if they already on the list. Single parents who have children under the age of eighteen can get medical treatment for their children through Medicaid.
