How To Teach Self Esteem ?

Self esteem is a feeling of self worth and that you are good enough. Only if you have self esteem will you believe in yourself and accept the qualities within you. One has to accept their good and bad qualities to make a change and gear towards personal development. Self esteem is not something that can be taught but it has to be developed within a person.

If you want to help a person develop self esteem, then you can encourage them to develop it.

Encourage the person with low self esteem to talk more. If they are very talkative, which can be a case sometimes, then teach them that conversation is a two way street and teach them to listen also. Pay attention when they talk and make sure they do the same. Pay compliments when they do small and simple things.

People with low self esteem do not behave in a way which they deserve compliments but by doing so you are helping to boost their morale and self worth. It may be a very small gesture from your end but it can help in a big way. Do not criticize the person openly but tell them how they can get better. Try to be as friendly as possible. See if you can enroll together in some social causes and activities. Try to make eye contact when they talk because it will help them to learn to look into people’s eyes when they are talking.
