Children need to love themselves first in order to develop self esteem. When a child has self esteem, he or she will become independent and confident as an adult. Children develop self esteem by seeing the world around them starting from their parents. Children will start putting blame on others for their incapability’s and they will always be making excuses for something that they did not do.
Self esteem plays a key role in positive cycle of child development. As a parent you need to praise them for their good qualities and support them to keep it up. When they are shy make them come out of it and encourage them to be outgoing. Kids usually trust their parents completely, and they believe whatever they have to say. As a parent correct them when they are wrong, but never tell them that they are not good enough. Children’s self confidence develops when you start involving them in small activities around the house like household chores for example. Leave smaller decisions to them like what they want to wear or eat. Give them choices and ask them to decide.
