Communication Skills In Kids

Possessing skills in effective communication involves more than just knowing to talk. Children need the guidance to learn and interact with people with respect to talking, writing or through electronic modes of communication. Role-playing can be useful in teaching children to communicate with adults and peers.

Make your child aware of the importance of listening and develop his skills of listening to others assuring them that it is fine to clarify anything they are doubtful about. Teach them in simplest form the working of an active communication. Role-playing with the child helps him learn the proper ways to talk to adults. Children would have fun while also learning in an engaging way through this. Also, teach them about the words that should not be used publicly or at home and words that should not be used at all. If you have a small child, you can play the telephone game with him or you can simply start telling a story and ask your child to finish it.

Discuss with your child about the nonverbal communication and teach them about the importance of body language and posture. Teach them about the space perimeter amid them and the person across listening to them. Teach them how body language can affect the way their message is presented and practice it with them. For example, you should tell them that if they are standing with their arms crossed, the person across with whom they are talking to, would misconstrue that you are angry, even as you might not be.

Teach the children about the importance of using the right tone while talking. Let them know that shouting or arguing with anyone is not the best practice to communicate with anyone.
