Intercultural Conflict Resolution

Conflicts and differences in opinions among various cultures and races of the society have always been prominent since time immemorial. Different cultures among the human beings are formed due to different upbringing, thoughts and opinion. And, it is something that is inculcated in a person right from his childhood. Thus, when he comes in contact with someone from another cultural background, he gets to learn new things and instantly form some opinions about them. If these differences in opinions turn into disagreement, intercultural conflict starts taking shape.

Intercultural conflicts may be caused by miscommunication or what is known as the language barrier. Frequently, people from different backgrounds find it tough to communicate with each other due to the different native languages. This creates confusion, leading to conflicts. Some ways can be implemented to resolve these types of conflict. Otherwise the society can become a battlefield. Also, difference in the goals to be achieved by the two different cultures stems out some misunderstandings and conflicting situations.

The best way to resolve conflicting cultures is to analyze both the cultures and understand their values and their goals. It is also important to understand all the reasons behind the other culture’s motto and mentality. By reason, it is meant here that it is necessary to know what purpose the respective customs and cultures are serving rather than what caused those rituals to be like what they are. Keeping an open mind would ward off any sort of conflicts among various cultures. It is essential for anybody to feel that just like he is special, complete with his upbringing and thoughts and customs, the same way, the other person is also unique in his own ways, with his own reasoning and thoughts.
