Even though a pack of cigarettes clearly states smoking is injurious to health, people still insist on smoking. It is an addiction, which can be very hard to give up.
Smoking is one of the main causes of lung cancer and subsequent deaths. Cigarettes also contain tar, which gets deposited in the lungs causing a disease known as emphysema. If left untreated, emphysema can be fatal. It can also lead to cancer or chronic bronchitis.
Smoking does irreparable damage to the lungs. Because it adversely affects the lungs, smoking decreases the amount of oxygen content in the blood. This means that blood leaving the lungs does not carry adequate oxygen to different parts of the body. In addition, smoking causes swelling of the lung tissue and this can lead to high blood pressure.
Basically smokers should be aware that smoking destroys the lung tissue and in the long run they are inviting various types of terminal and/or chronic diseases which can take a toll on the body.
