Most youngsters, who smoke consider, it a stylish or trendy habit without realizing that by the time they reach adulthood, they will be addicted to smoking. It is estimated that tobacco contained in cigarettes causes 5.4 million deaths each year around the word. By 2015, it is estimated that 6.5 million people will die on account of smoking, and this figure is only going to grow as the years go by. By 2030, smoking will cause 8.3 million deaths worldwide. According to a report by the World Health Organization, every 6.5 seconds, a smoker or an ex-smoker dies due to smoking-related diseases or health problems.
In the United States, it is estimated that around 443,000 people die each year because of smoking, and an additional 50,000 die due illnesses and diseases brought on by passive smoking, or inhalation of second hand cigarette smoke. In China where practically everyone smokes, around 1.2 million people die due to this addiction each year. This figure works out to a whopping 2,000 deaths a day.
